Just-In-Time: House Votes 315-48 to Extend NFIP to May 31, 2019
After a challenging week in Congress, the House passed S.3628 that extends the NFIP’s authority until May 31, 2019. President Trump signed the bill into law Friday night. The NFIP did not expire.
The goal of extending the NFIP for a six-month period is to provide time for Congress to consider meaningful reforms to the program before authorizing it for a longer term. Many stakeholders have previously expressed concern of setting NFIP’s expiration on the eve of the first day of Hurricane Season and hopes are that the new Congress will make the flood program a priority in advance of this date.
We hope that in the coming months, the MCC will be reaching out to get feedback on meaningful reform proposals for a better NFIP. You can review past bills by going to our Legislation tab on our Downloads page by clicking HERE
