Legislative Update- 5/30/2017

On September 30th of this year, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) expires.  Congress has made it a priority to not only reauthorize the program, but also reform it.  In the last 2 weeks, there has been an incredible amount of legislative activity.  There are two bills proposed in the US House, and one in the US Senate.  With all the moving legislation, we have been working with our national partners to make an impact on reauthorization.  In the last week, we have been involved in 2 national conference calls, have scheduled meetings with our Federal representative’s offices, and have more planned.

Over the coming weeks, we will be focused on making an impact with legislation and making you aware of legislative updates and changes.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERNCE!  The next few weeks will be critical for the reauthorization of the NFIP.  We are looking for your input on the proposed legislation.  On our website, we have a comment sheet for each proposed bill, with a line for each section of each bill.  Next to it, please make comments and email us the comment sheets back.

Thank you!  For everyone that made our event so successful!  We are so proud to have been able to serve you for 5 years.  Some exciting highlights from the event were:

  • -Legislative update form State Representative James Cantwell and MCCC Chair Joe Rossi
  • -Updates on the new MCCC Bylaws, which expand the board, create a membership structure, and potentially move the MCCC to 501c3 status
  • -Partnership with FEMA to beta test new outreach products

Thank you again!  We look forward to the next 5 years! Click here to see images from the night
