There has been a slew of legislative hearings in congress over the last few weeks. These hearings, in the House Financial Services Committee, and the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs committee have been aimed at trying to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program with significant reforms.
On our website, I have posted the House Financial Services Committee hearings. These committee hearings are a sign that Congress has moved the NFIP reauthorization to a priority.
This week, I will be traveling to New Orleans, LA and Scottsdale, AZ in order to begin our efforts to push for reform priorities that we have worked on regionally and with national coalitions. In my trip to New Orleans, I will be meeting with the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance. In Scottsdale, I will be attending the National Flood Determination Association (NFDA) annual conference. In January, I was elected on to the NFDA board of directors. This conference is a chance for us to get in front of decision makers in FEMA.
In addition to the white papers and reauthorization ideas on our website, please feel free to email me any additional ideas or comments you would like brought up or questions asked at either meeting. We are in the middle of legislative action, and there is more to come in April.
