NFIP Extended Until December 8th
A short-term extension of the NFIP was tucked into an agreement to provide billions in disaster aid for Hurricane Harvey, raise the debt ceiling and keep the government from shutting down. The Senate passed the package Thursday by an 80-17 vote, The House passed it on Friday.
The package will extend the reauthorization of the NFIP deadline to Dec. 8. We will be in DC next week to advocate that the program is temporarily extended to September 30th 2018 in order for us to fully evaluate this hurricane season and the NFIP Affordability framework due out this month.
We will update you with any other immediate changes.
We are continuing to monitor the situation in both Texas and Florida. We know that currently about 80,000 NFIP claims have been filed, and there are certainly going to be more. We again wanted to remind those that are affected in these areas to apply for FEMA for an application to begin the disaster assistance process. That number is 1-800-621-3362.
